Work

My CV is available in PDF and word format.

I am an experienced electronics engineer who has worked a number of complex digital and mixed signal boards for use at CERN www.cern.ch  and the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. These projects have included large data processing systems, where I designed part of the analogue front end and the card power distribution such as the CMS FED  and a further paper here.

There have been other smaller but still important cards such as HOTWAXS and HOTSAXS  detector systems for Diamond, Daresbury Laboratory and ISIS.  I have also designed the extension to the timing system on a large physics experiment, ISIS target station 2  I have also worked previously at  DERA Malvern on radio systems.

I have used a number of different FPGA and CPLD devices from both Xilinx and Altera. The HOTWAXS cards were built round a Spartan 2E and with the front end pulse discriminator using ALTERA MAX 7000 series. I have also used a Virtex 4  . I have used Mentor Graphics HDL Designer, simulated using Modelsim, and PSPICE , and also used Quartus  Precision Synthsis and ISE

Education and energy

I have been interested in energy supply and energy conservation for a long time. I have recently completed an Msc in Electronics Technology for Sustainable Energy. My dissertation was on electricity meter fraud with relation to the Feed In Tarriff and how it might be detected in meter. The summary of my dissertation can be read here, and the course prospectus can be found here.

Hobbies
I like photography and have lots of interesting pictures. I prefer B&W to colour and like the urban landscape, examples of my work can be seen here and also on my flickr page.
